Motivation: Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) methods for RNA-Seq result mil-
lions of short sequences, called reads that provide fundamental information in the elds
of genomics, epigenetics and transcriptomes. One of the main objectives of many bio-
logical studies is gene expression pro ling between samples. Gene expression pro ling
studies involve mapping of short reads to reference genome, if available, summarizing,
normalizing, and nally performing downstream analysis such as making a list of dif-
ferentially expressed (DE) genes. One of the common assumptions of RNA-Seq data is
that, all gene counts follow an overdispersed Poisson or Negative Binomial (NB) distri-
bution which is sometimes misleading because some genes may have stable transcription
levels with no overdispersion and some of them may have excessive number...
Consumers are bombarded by buzzwords like 'natural', 'organic' and 'cage-free' or 'free-range' that plaster food packages in every supermarket to signify the product's superior quality. But, do they really mean anything? The relationship between certain manufacturer's and business's labeling strategies and consumer acceptance of the implied practices behind those labels was assessed via a survey generated in Qualtrics. The survey, which remained active for two weeks, was sent out via the Ball State University campus email system to students, faculty and staff as well as to willing participants of the Muncie Masterworks Chorale. Approximately 60% of participants understand the factors that contributed to the definitions of the following labels that pertain to beef, pork, poultry, dairy or egg products: 'natural', 'organic', 'cage-free',...

This study sought to find the spectrum of biases and judgments that are made through the perception of dress. Participants from a Midwestern university rated a group and its leader on levels of energy, knowledge, friendliness and socio-economic status. The leader's dress style varied by condition as either professional or causal. Results did not indicate that judgments varied as a function of attire; however, exploratory analyses did find a relationship between age and judgment of the target's energy level, knowledge level and leadership ability. Younger participants viewed the leader more positively regardless of her style of dress. Limitations are discussed and suggestions for modification of the current study for future research are provided.

Aim: The objective of this study is to determine the prevalence of psychological distress (PD) among cancer patients and to investigate the association of PD with various socio-demographic factors.
Methods and results: We consider the 2013 National Health Interview Survey, a large survey of the US non-institutionalized civilian population. PD is determined with a standardized questionnaire (K6). Cancer diagnoses are determined based on self-report. For the purpose of this study, four different types of cancer are selected based on the leading number of deaths caused by them. We fit three commonly used ordinal regression model for PD for both overall cancer patients as well as for patients with four sub-types of (breast, colon, lung, and prostate) cancer. According to the goodness of fit criteria, AIC and deviance, we select the adjace...
A merger/acquisition is a potentially disruptive time for an organization. This creative project presented an in-depth literature review related to the internal communications needs of a corporation engaged in a merger/acquisition. Following this review, an online survey of employees currently working for a Midwest company undergoing a merger/acquisition was distributed to gauge employee reactions to the types of communication used during this process and collect information on what types of communication employees prefer. Results suggest that a corporation must pay attention to not only the legal and financial aspects of the merger/acquisition, but also to the employee-related concerns that may emerge. Evidence presented within the scholarly research explains the ways in which a comprehensive internal communications plan can be used t...
Saudi Arabia is one of the richest countries in the world, but its economy heavily depends on oil. In my research my prime objective was to predict the expenditure pattern of Saudi Arabia in terms of oil and total revenue. We considered six variables here. Current, capital and total expenditure are considered as response and oil, other and total revenue are considered as explanatory variables. This can be done by regression method. The commonly used least squares method heavily depends on normality and other standard assumptions. For this reason we consider distribution free nonparametric and robust regression methods. Since this is a time series data this prediction can also be done using ARIMA models. In our study we evaluate the prediction obtained by different regression and time series methods (OLS from classical regression, LMS f...
