To enhance the scientific utility and practical application of the honey bee genome and assign the linkage groups to specific chromosomes, I identified chromosomes and characterized the karyotype of the sequenced strain DH4 of the honey bee. The primary analysis of the karyotype and ideogram construction was based on banding and Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) for rDNA detection. FISH confirmed two locations for the NOR on telomeric regions of chromosomes 6 and 12 plus an additional less frequent signal on chromosome 1, all three of which were confirmed with silver staining (AgNO3). 4?6-diamidino-2phenylindole (DAPI), and CBanding methods were used to construct the primary ideograms that served as a basis to further identify the chromosomes and locate important structures. The primary map was compared with Giemsa banding, AgN...

We present STAR results on the elliptic flow upsilon(2) Of charged hadrons, strange and multistrange particles from, root s(NN) = 200 GeV Au+Au collisions at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The detailed study of the centrality dependence of upsilon(2) over a broad transverse momentum range is presented. Comparisons of different analysis methods are made in order to estimate systematic uncertainties. To discuss the nonflow effect, we have performed the first analysis Of upsilon(2) with the Lee-Yang zero method for K(S)(0) and A. In the relatively low PT region, P(T) <= 2 GeV/c, a scaling with m(T) - m is observed for identified hadrons in each centrality bin studied. However, we do not observe nu 2(p(T))) scaled by the participant eccentricity to be independent of centrality. At higher PT, 2 1 <= PT <= 6 GeV/c, V2 scales ...

In recent years the area around Houston and Baytown, Texas, has been affected to an increasing degree by land subsidence. Sinking of the land surface has reached critical proportions in many areas, and subsidence of as much as eight feet has occurred. The severity of this phenomenon has been aggravated by the proximity of much of the affected area to bay waters, and tidal flooding has resulted in significant damages and property loss. Subsidence has been linked by engineers to the decline of subsurface water levels due to heavy ground water withdrawals in the area. An alternative source for water demands has been introduced, although price differentials have slowed its acceptance. Major objectives of this study included estimation of historical costs attributable to subsidence, projecting estimated costs, and examining the econom...
In 1979, Dow Corning Corporation decided to build a wood fueled steam and electric cogeneration (SECO) power plant at Midland, Michigan. This decision was prompted by the high cost of oil and natural gas, an abundant supply of wood in mid Michigan and the fuel efficiency inherent in cogeneration. Construction commenced in March of 1980 and plant operation will begin during the 4th quarter of 1982. The primary fuel will be wood in the form of chips. Three-quarters of the wood will come from nearby forest lands. The remainder will come from sawmill, urban and industrial residue. To assure the necessary supply of wood fuel, Dow Corning has assembled a natural resource team of professional foresters and wildlife biologists. This team will plan and administer a sound, sensitive forest/ wildlife management program, consisting of segments whi...
This study examined issues of measurement equivalence in a cross-national study using the Marital Satisfaction Inventory-Revised (MSI-R). Overall findings supported cross-cultural similarities across the Spain, Germany, Korea, and the U.S. standardization samples. The Spanish, German, and Korean translations of the MSI-R demonstrated moderate to strong internal consistency, inter-scale correlations, and discriminative validity overall. Confirmatory factor analyses revealed configural and metric invariance across the original measure and the German, Spanish, and Korean translations. Mean profile comparisons between the current German, Spanish, and Korean samples and the original standardization sample revealed significant differences on several scales. Test characteristic similarities between the U.S. and the Spanish, German, ...
