This article explores the importance of French thinker, Bruno Latour, for academic philosophy and addresses the question of why, when he has an enthusiastic following in a range of disciplines including sociology, anthropology and the fine arts, he has been largely overlooked by academic philosophers.
The Jewish thought could exert a big influence throughout history in many different thinkers. In this paper, we will focus in three authors from
the last years of the XVI century who had some ideas that come from the Jewish tradition: Montaigne, Bruno and Sanchez. These are three
different and very particular thinkers without any relation between them and who presented a different line of thought regarding the main
stream thought of their time. We are trying to show the elements of the Jewish tradition in these three authors in order to understand the
influence of the Jewish thought and the way it appeared in different intellectuals with different philosophical preoccupations.

An important philosopher and anthropologist of science, Bruno Latour has recently outlined an ambitious programme for a new sociological empiricism, in continuation of his actor-network-theory (ANT). Interrogating issues of description, explanation and theoretical interpretation in this ‘sociology of associations’, we argue that certain internal tensions are manifest. While Latour's philosophy of social science demands an absolute abandonment of theory in all its forms, proposing instead to simply ‘go on describing’, he is in practice employing versions of common sense explanation and pragmatic-constructivist theory to make ends meet. The core of this tension, we claim, can be located in Latour's meta-theoretical commitments, in effect obscuring important ways in which human subjects employ things, effects and symbols beyond their simp...
The following letter was written during the year 1008 by Brun of Querfurt –a bishop and missionary. It was addressed to the Saxon king Henry II (1002-1024), who was appointed emperor in 1014. The relations among the political actors involved in the events, which are described in the letter, were constantly changing. The Polish Piast dynasty had cooperated with the Empire since the middle of the 10th century. In 983 the Liutizi (a confederation of Slavic peoples) had risen up against the ecclesiastical and imperial structures in the Elbe region; in that context, paganism seems to have flourished. However, at the beginning of the new millennium, the Piast Bolesław the Brave became the most intimidating threat for the Empire, particularly because of his expansionist aims. In 1003 King Henry II came to an agreement with the Liutizi against...
This paper presents a method for solving a wide class of linear and nonlinear Partial Differential Equations subject to certain initial conditions. The proposed method reduces the Partial Differential Equation and the given initial conditions into a set of equations which allows us to obtain directly and easily the solution of the initial-value problem. The main characteristic of the method is that it uses the multivariate Faà di Bruno formula due to Savits and Constantine [T.H. Savits, Some statistical applications of Faà di Bruno, Journal of Multivariate Analysis, 97 (10), 2131-2140, 2006; G.M. Constantine and T.H. Savits, A multivariate Faà di Bruno formula with applications, Transactions of the American Mathematical Society, 348 (2), 503-520, 1996].
