Learning and continuous improvement are linked and learning must be central to CI and a culture that supports CI. Learning needs to be both individual and organisational and must benefit the organisation’s performance. The HR department is often given the task of championing of culture change, and it appears that involvement of HR professionals would enhance CI efforts and assist in the timely solution of issues within the CI process. This paper aims to determine the influence of involving HR professionals in CI, and if their involvement has any impact on support and tools used in CI and the contribution of CI to business performance.
People are central to successful Continuous Improvement (CI), and in larger organisations a Human Resource Management (HRM) function is responsible for people related issues. Central to CI is learning and a culture that supports CI. Learning needs to be both individual and organisational, and must benefit the organisation's performance. The HRM function is often given the task of championing cultural change and managing aspects of training and learning, and it would appear that involvement of HRM professionals would enhance CI efforts and assist in the timely solution of issues within the CI process. This paper aims to determine the influence of involving HRM professionals in CI, and if their involvement has any impact on support and tools used in CI and the contribution of CI to business performance.
Continuous integration (CI) systems automate the compilation, building, and testing of software. Despite CI being one of the most widely used processes in software engineering, we do not know what motivates developers to use CI, and what barriers and unmet needs they face. Without such knowledge developers make easily avoidable errors, managers reduce the productivity of developers by making misinformed decisions, tool builders invest in the wrong direction, and researchers miss many opportunities for improving the software engineering practice. Given the large fraction of proprietary code development, understanding how proprietary developers are using CI is vital to improving it. We present the first study of how CI is used in the proprietary development of software. We conduct 16 semi-structured interviews with developers from diffe...
Calculations of the energy of H2 have been performed using both the projected Hartree–Fock (PHF) method and a full CI method in the same basis for comparison of the two methods. It is discovered that PHF can account for 86% of the correlation energy, whereas CI will account for 88% of the correlation energy. ©1969 American Institute of Physics
The CI repressor from the temperate bacteriophage TP901-1 consists of two folded domains, an N-terminal helix-turn-helix DNA-binding domain (NTD) and a C-terminal oligomerization domain (CTD), which we here suggest to be further divided into CTD1 and CTD2. Full-length CI is a hexameric protein, whereas a truncated version, CI∆58, forms dimers. We identify the dimerization region of CI∆58 as CTD1 and determine its secondary structure to be helical both within the context of CI∆58 and in isolation. To our knowledge this is the first time that a helical dimerization domain has been found in a phage repressor. We also precisely determine the length of the flexible linker connecting the NTD to the CTD. Using electrophoretic mobility shift assays and native mass spectrometry, we show that CI∆58 interacts with the OL operator site as one dime...

Existing country image (CI) literature tends to focus on consumer behaviour. In contrast, this paper approaches CI from the point of view of the firm. In doing so, it seeks to identify the means by which international companies associate a brand with a specific country of origin in order to build brand values. In particular, it looks at the use of CI cues in brand strategies. The paper is based on exploratory research comprising a case study of two contrasting companies from the cosmetics industry, Natura, a domestic company, and the French-owned L’Occitane, both of which draw on images of Brazil to build their brands. Specific elements of CI used in branding are identified, and the extent to which the use of these differs depending on the origin of the owning company is explored. The cases suggest that CI can be exploited in differe...
Continuous Improvement (CI) is an integral part of hospital administration. This study examined the relationship between five CI variables against six hospital criterion measures of, wait times to prepare a room, patient costs per day, waiting time for lab results, reportable errors, patient satisfaction, and employee satisfaction. The research was conducted using information gathered from 17 returned surveys out of a possible of 206 hospitals in three northwestern states. A survey was developed and administered to provide hospital level assessments of five CI variables and six hospital performance measures. Differences between efficiency and effectiveness CI tool usage were also investigated. Differences in tool usage between large, medium, and small hospital size groupings were also investigated. A statistically significant di...
